Thank you to every single neighbor (and the few non-members) who gave to the Officer Holiday Bonus to show your support. It is inspiring and humbling. We had a record breaking amount contributed this year.
While we relish this major accomplishment, we don't want to forget our purpose: to be "neighbors watching out for other neighbors". This was proven just this week when a crime was filmed on Wander Lane.
At 4 pm on Wednesday, January 3, a service van was pulled up on the street of one of our neighbors. A black Chrysler pulled up right next to it; a man got out, opened the back of the service vehicle and stole items in broad daylight. The neighbor living across the street witnessed the crime and ran out filming the whole way, yelling when he hit the street. The car sped away but a police report was filed. We should ALL be on the lookout for a black Chrysler, fitting the description of the one in the video below (turn up the volume to hear th.
We cannot grow complacent. People drive our neighborhood looking for the easy target. Remember these tips:
- PLEASE tell service folks, along with friends or family who come to your home, to LOCK vehicles at all times when away from the car.
- NEVER run into your home, leaving your car unlocked, for "just a minute". That's all it takes, especially in broad daylight or afternoon.
- Call 911 during hours when our officers are NOT on duty (they work 4 pm to midnight M-F and 5 pm to 1 am weekends). Since 911 calls usually take time, also leave a message on the Officer's phone (this phone is only turned on when the officer's go on duty for us). When officers come on duty, they can ensure a police report is taken and help in the process. THIS is the service we pay for, so USE it. We actually had a neighbor's car stolen downtown and Chris LaRue, our coordinator, came to help them file a report.
We want to thank you again for a fantastic finish to 2023. We look forward to meaningful connections and boundless possibilities for us all in 2024.
